Social & ELA- Night of the Notables
To enhance research, reading, writing, speaking and presentation skills, we are now beginning a combined ELA & social project on famous people! Students will be expected to select one famous or "Notable" person who they are interested in learning more about and sharing their accomplishments with others. A full project description is provided in the attachments below, complete with due dates. As a culminating event, both grade 5 classes will be hosting a "Night of the Notables" on May 22nd beginning at 6:00pm. This will be a time for students to dress as their famous person and present a short speech to parents and guests.

Science Fair Project
This years annual CIS Science Fair is taking place on March 7th... so it's time to begin working on the projects! As is the case for any project, it must be completed in stages. Here is a brief outline of the dates the two Grade 5 classes are working under:
Monday, Jan 28- Introduce Science Fair to students
Tuesday, Feb 5- Topic submission to Ms. Shannon
Wednesday, Feb 6- Meetings with Ms. Shannon to review topic proposals & send home form for parent signature
Thursday, Feb 7- Forms submitted, with parent signatures included
February 18- Scientific Method Due
February 24- Check-up on how projects are going for time lines, whats working, whats not, what needs to be changed, etc.
March 7- Science Fair

Get ready for a new Social Studies project on the Regions of Canada! This project is very research based, with many forms of presentation available.
The time line of this project will be discussed in class, and will run in line with due dates outlined on the assignment description (see attachment).

Our social studies map quiz on Thursday will cover the mapping work we have done so far this fall. Students will be given a map of the world and asked to label all the continents and oceans. Also, students will be provided a list of all provinces, territories and capital cities in Canada that they must then match accordingly and place on the map.
